An Interview with … Eleanor of Not-So-Modern Girl

This is the first of a new series I’m going to be writing, where I connect with other bloggers to ask them questions and share their replies with you in a post dedicated to them. Hopefully through these posts, you’ll connect with new people and blogs or maybe learn something new about someone who you’re already connected with.

The first person to take part in this is Eleanor from Not-So-Modern Girl.

I used to carry out a series similar to this a long time a go on an old blog, but I saw a tweet from Eleanor expressing an interest in doing some colab posts, so I contacted her and here we are – the ‘An Interview with …’ series has started again.

Let’s get to the questions!

1. How did you first get interested in blogging?

I actually first got interested in starting a blog when I was in school, as I wanted a place to read and review books – but it wasn’t until University that I started focusing on it more seriously. While I was busy with work during term-time, I would spend my summers building my blog following and writing lots of book reviews and other content. Now that I’ve finished University, I’m hoping that I’ll have even more time to grow and expand it!

I think the main reason I got interested in blogging was just because it seemed like a fun idea to me. I have always enjoyed writing, and for me blogging seemed like a nice creative outlet – somewhere to talk about my favourite books. And it got even better when I realised people were actually interested in what I had to say about them.

2. What do you write about on your blog, and what would you say your “niche” is?

I write about all kinds of things on my blog! I write a lot of book-related posts, but I also like reviewing films and TV series’, as well as throwing a few lifestyle posts in there! When I first started my blog it was definitely primarily a “book blog” as I mainly posted reviews, but it’s been nice to move into different content in the past few years.

3. Are there any other areas you’d like to explore on your blog in the future?

I still love talking about books, but I’m interested in getting into writing more lifestyle-related posts in the next few months. I’ve written a few posts on issues such as dealing with acne, and I find these more personal posts really interesting to write as I expand my blog. I’ve also started reviewing more TV series’ and films (mainly because with University work, it was hard to keep up with reading for pleasure!).

4. Do you have any tips for someone starting out their own blog?

I would say make sure you’re enjoying yourself, as that should be the most important thing about having a blog! For more practical advice, scheduling posts can be a lifesaver – most blogging platforms allow you to schedule when your posts will go up, and if you’re busy with other things this can be a great way to make sure you’re still getting your content out there, even when you’re tied up with something else! I know most people know this already but I found this such a big help while I was in University.

5. Do you enjoy using social media to promote your blog?

Yes! I was surprised how much I enjoyed using social media. I’ve enjoyed connecting with other bloggers via Twitter and I know that a lot of my traffic comes from there. While I try to avoid using social media too much as I find it very draining, I think that it’s a great way to promote new posts and stay up-to-date with other people’s posts and blogs.

What a lovely insight in to Eleanor’s blogging journey and there’s some great tips in there too. Thank you for taking part Eleanor!
